The Professional Insurance Agents of New York State elected Tony Kubera of Hamburg president-elect and Fred Holender of Williamsville to its board of directors. Kubera is director of business development for Russell Bond & Co. in Buffalo. Holender is director of administration for Lawley Service in Buffalo.


Phillips Lytle partner Richard E. Honen will present opening remarks for the main entrepreneur presentation at Bright Buffalo Niagara Venture Forum on Oct. 1 at Statler City. Honen will introduce the topic of funding sources for early-stage companies.


Gateway-Longview appointed Cheryl Hagen grants and donor relations specialist and Melissa Maderer public relations specialist. Hagen previously provided news, traffic and entertainment programming at WEBR Newsradio 970, WGRZ-TV and Metro Networks during a 27-year career in broadcasting in Western New York. Maderer was responsible for community relations, grant writing and development, and many fundraising efforts for the Donate Life Foundation of Unyts.

M&T Bank was named one of the 10 best companies supporting the arts for 2013 by the Business Committee for the Arts. The BCA 10 awards are presented annually by the Business Committee for the Arts, a division of Americans for the Arts, a nonprofit based in Washington, D.C. The awards will be presented Oct. 2 at a gala at the Central Park Boathouse in New York City. M&T was nominated by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.


Netplus Alliance, a buying group for industrial and contractor supplies distributors, recently added a new supplier: Akro-Mils, a manufacturer of plastic and metal storage, organization, transport and material handling products.


Oddo Construction Services, Amherst, was awarded a $105,300 federal contract for modular buildings from the U.S. Army Contracting Command, Watervliet.


Great Lakes Orthodontics, Town of Tonawanda, was awarded a $966,076 federal contract for dental equipment and supplies from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Acquisition Center, Hines, Ill.


L&M Financial adviser Julie Murphy recently sponsored a golf tournament in memory of her father, Gerry Gentner, to raise funds for Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the Western New York SUNY Cortland Alumni Scholarship Fund. The event helped raise $5,296 for SUNY Cortland and $3,040 for Roswell Park.
