UB 26, Stony Brook 23: How the Bulls won

Bottom line: How did UB win? Good question. The Bulls tried hard to give this one away but persevered with a two-play TD drive in the fifth OT.

Turning Point: For UB? When Stony Brook kicker Nick Ferrara missed a 37-yard field goal in the fourth overtime. For Stony Brook: When Ferrara missed that kick for the win.

Player of the Game: Anthone Taylor ran for 109 of his career-high 118 yards after halftime and scored his second touchdown on a 6-yard run in the fifth overtime.

Stat Check: Stony Brook outgained UB, 440-349, including a 300-216 advantage through the air.

What It Means: UB’s in the win column and avoided a loss that, quite frankly, might have killed their bowl aspirations. Stony Brook fell to 1-1.

In the House: Crowd of 24,013 was third largest in history of UB Stadium. Maybe a quarter of them hung around to watch the conclusion.

Next Up: The Bulls are off until Connecticut visits UB Stadium on Sept. 28.
