Third-time felon draws prison term in armed robbery at store

LOCKPORT – A Kenmore man was sentenced Friday to five years in prison and five years of post-release supervision for robbing a convenience store cashier while brandishing a shotgun on Dec. 23.

James L. Ward, 39, had pleaded guilty April 25 to a reduced charge of attempted second-degree robbery in connection with the incident at the now-defunct Niagara on the Go store at 19th and Niagara streets in Niagara Falls.

Deputy District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann told County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas that this was Ward’s third felony conviction.
