At Hallwalls, a new show by Miami artist Clifton Childree

A new multimedia work by Miami-based artist Clifton Childree based on the landscape and history of the Buffalo Niagara region will go on view Friday in Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, 341 Delaware Ave.

For his Hallwalls residency, Childree has created a “wax museum historical display” based on an actual exhibit on Niagara Falls. The focus of Childree’s display is not the thundering falls, but the history of the Buffalo company QRS Music Rolls, the last remaining producer of music rolls for player pianos.

“Part historical museum, part boardwalk frivolity, part arcade fun house, Childree’s work utilizes an old-timey aesthetic as the entry point into a new, emotional space,” a release reads. The installation includes 8mm films and an original score based on the roar of the falls composed and performed by Buffalo musician Bob Berkman, a devotee of the pianola, or player piano.

The show will open with a reception and artist talk at 8 p.m. Friday and runs through Nov. 1. Call 854-1694 or visit
