Walk slated to raise funds for suicide prevention

Saturday, family and friends of suicide victims will be joined by other supporters in Delaware Park for the Out of the Darkness suicide prevention and awareness walk.

Money raised will go to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. According to the foundation’s website, suicide claims more than 38,000 lives each year in the United States. While it is the second leading cause of death among teenagers and young adults, it affects all age groups. Individuals ages 65 and older account for 16 percent of all suicides.

The walk, which will loop around Meadow Drive, begins at 10:30 a.m. Participants can check in at the park near the Buffalo Zoo starting at 8:30 a.m. To register, go to www.afsp.org, or sign up the day of the walk.
