Evans Town Board sets hearing on block grant funding

The Evans Town Board has scheduled a hearing during its Oct. 2 meeting to consider public proposals for Community Development Block Grant funding.

The town annually submits proposals to Erie County to try to get grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for infrastructure improvements and anti-poverty initiatives.

The process is competitive, however, and the town did not receive any funding last year when it submitted a proposal to add more sidewalks in the Lake Erie Beach neighborhood and make improvements to the town pool.

The town has wanted help paying for $100,000 in improvements at the John K. Thompson Pool at South Creek Park to make it handicapped accessible. Evans is also looking for money for the second phase of the Kennedy Avenue Greenway Streetscape project, which adds sidewalks along this neighborhood’s main east-west road for more people to bike and walk.

This second phase would cost an estimated $119,000.

Meanwhile, the Angola Village Board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in Village Hall, 41 Commercial St.

The Angola Town Board is scheduled to meet at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday for a work session in Town Hall, 8787 Erie Road.

The 9/11 Remembrance at Centennial Park will be held at 7 p.m. in the park at Center and High streets behind the village post office.
