East Aurora’s Kaitlin Hawayek along with Jean-Luc Baker of Edmunds, Wash., the current U.S. junior silver medalists in figuring skating, won the gold medal at the recent 2013 Junior Grand Prix Mexico in Mexico City. The duo trains in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

In their second season as a team, Hawayek and Baker won their first JGP title with 136.45 points. Their free dance earned a personal-best 80.34 points, featured a pair of lifts that earned a Level 4, the highest level awarded in figure skating, and a Level 3 circular step sequence worth 8.17 points.
