The Aurora Town Board voted unanimously Monday to hire an accounting firm, following the abrupt resignation of bookkeeper Nicole Serra last week.

Serra, who submitted her resignation letter Sept. 3, told Supervisor Jolene Jeffe she accepted another position elsewhere. FreedMaxick, of Batavia, will supply part-time staff for about 10 hours a week at $55 an hour.

The 45-day contract with the firm is intended to give Aurora enough time to find a replacement for Serra, Jeffe told the board at the Monday evening meeting.
