The Buffalo Junior Sabres opened the Ontario Junior Hockey League season by beating host North York (Ont.), 4-2, on Sunday afternoon.

Michael Ederer, Sean McCormick, Josh Gabriel and Nolan Sheeran scored for Buffalo, which trailed 1-0 before Ederer’s goal at 11:33 of the second sparked a four-goal outburst. The Junior Sabres led 3-1 after two periods.

Ryan Schmelzer had two assists in the win, including the helper on Sheeran’s goal at 14:03 of the third period. Joseph Pianta made 32 saves for Buffalo, which holds its home opener at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Northtown Center in Amherst against Toronto/Lakeshore.
