Letter: Firefighters need community’s support

Firefighters need community’s support

I am amazed at the cheapness of some people. Recently, I drove through a small town and the firefighters were in the street with their boots to collect money. Even with my small wages, I always put in a dollar or two. I heard a guy in an opposite lane say, “I don’t live here,” and drive off. Well, if he were in an accident in that town, would the firefighters say, “he doesn’t live here,” or would they help him? In a nearby city, firefighters were also out with their boots. I know unlike volunteers they probably get a lot more state aid, but they still need help.

Men and women with the fire company don’t say, “it’s too hot” or “it’s too cold” to go out and help someone. In rural areas, we rely on volunteers, with money from our own pockets. Think about that the next time you say, “I don’t live here.”
