Letter: Citizens desperately need constitutional watchdogs

Citizens desperately need constitutional watchdogs

If I was President Obama, I would be emboldened to continue in authoritative unconstitutional actions without fear of reprisal during the duration of my second term. With Benghazi, NSA, IRS, Fast and Furious and executive decisions on halting implementation of the Affordable Care Act in the rear view as far as media scrutiny is concerned, is there anything at this point that can halt his unconstitutional ways? Will Congress pick up its mantle and investigate and impeach the president? No. Will the media scrutinize the president the way they would George W. Bush or Ronald Reagan or any other Republican? No.

It therefore becomes the duty of the citizens to stay informed and pressure the media and Congress to maintain fidelity to the rule of law and the Constitution through having them honestly investigate the executive branch. I am reminded of the words of Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration, “A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.” This is certainly true of Obama. But unless the citizenry and the media operate as the watchdogs of the Constitution that they ought to be, fidelity to it will remain but a fading hope.
