LITTLE VALLEY – Cattaraugus County Sheriff Timothy S. Whitcomb today alerted the public to a telephone scam in the Cattaraugus County area concerning phony federal government offerings. The sheriff said the callers are telling residents they are from the Federal Government and are informing them of federal grant monies available. To get the money residents are told to go to a Western Union location and wire $250 to a specific address to receive their grant prize money. Anyone getting such calls should never give personal information or wire any funds. Victims should contact the sheriff’s office at 716-938-9191 or local law enforcement agencies.
