The next head of the FBI in Buffalo will be an agent with a background in cyber threat investigations.

Brian P. Boetig. former director of the National Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force, was named today as Special Agent in Charge of the FBI office in Buffalo.

Boetig, who began his career with the FBI in 1998, most recently served at the federal center that serves as multi-agency coordinator for cyber threat investigations.

He also has worked for the Joint Terrorism Task Force, as an instructor at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and as an FBI Counterterrorism Division Liaison Officer to the Central Intelligence Agency’s Counterterrorism Center.

Before joining the FBI, Boetig worked as a special agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and as a police officer in Auburn, Alabama.

He replaces Christopher Piehota, who left Buffalo in April to become director of the Terrorist Screening Center in Washington D.C.
