Marjorie Connors, social worker, administrator

Marjorie Connors, a social worker with Child and Family Services for almost 50 years, died Saturday. She was 79.

A lifelong Buffalo resident, Ms. Connors graduated from Holy Angels Academy and what is now Daemen College before receiving her master of social work degree from the University of Buffalo School of Social Work in the late 1950s.

During a career at Child and Family Services that spanned five decades, her titles included supervisor of the foster care and adoption program and director of an after-hours emergency services program.

Ms. Connors received numerous accolades and awards for her work.

In 2001, Child and Family Services presented her a Lifetime Service award.

In 2010, she received a Lifetime Achievement award from the New York State Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, an organization that she served in a variety of leadership roles in four consecutive decades, starting in the 1960s.

A lifetime member of St. Mark Catholic Church until 2012, when she joined Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Ms. Connors served on the St. Mark’s parish council and was a Eucharistic minister there.

She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling, most notably to Europe on several occasions.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1132 Delaware Ave.
