Clare Grellick, dress shop owner, honored volunteer

Clare Grellick, a dress shop owner and award-winning volunteer at Weinberg Campus, died Thursday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. She was 89.

Born in Buffalo, she attended School 66 and Bennett High School.

Born into her family’s business, Variety Dress Shop on Hertel Avenue, she became co-owner, along with her mother, of the store, where she worked until it closed in 1981.

For 19 years, she ran the gift shop at Weinberg Campus as a volunteer. She was named Volunteer of the Year and received many other awards for her service.

Mrs. Grellick was a member of Temple Beth Tzedek and a life member of the Brandeis Women’s Committee.

She enjoyed needlepoint, painting, walking and reading.

Her husband of more than 45 years, David, died in 1993.

Survivors include a brother, Lawrence Korman.

Graveside services were held at Beth David Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
