Three area amateur boxers captured titles at the Paul Murphy National Classic in Atlanta, Ga., over the weekend.
Buffalo’s Donnie Marshall recovered from a second-round knockdown to beat his foe via stoppage in the third round in the 162-pound championship match. Marshall went 3-0 at the tournament and improved to 8-0 overall. Marshall’s trainer, Ross Thompson, said the bout was selected as fight of the night.
Mike Stevens of Cambria improved to 6-0 overall and won his second tournament title in the 152-pound class. He went 2-0 at the Murphy Classic to add a second championship belt to his collection. He won the Bobby Hughes National Invitational in July.
North Tonawanda’s Alexander Dodovegs went 2-0 to capture the super heavyweight title division. Jack Grady of East Aurora lost a close decision in the 141-pound final, finishing the tournament 2-1.
