Road paving will begin this week on North Union and North Forest Roads, the state Department of Transportation announced.

Lanes in both directions will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday on Union between Main Street and Sheridan Drive.

Flaggers will alternate the use of one lane in the work zone and motorists should expect delays, officials said.

Also this week:

• The Amherst Veterans Committee will meet at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Amherst Municipal Building, 5583 Main St. The Glen Park Joint Board will also meet there Tuesday at 7 p.m.

• The Amherst Center for Senior Services will host its Labor Day End of the Summer Picnic at noon Tuesday at the senior center, 370 John James Audubon Pkwy.

The party will include a tiki stand, summer refreshments and a Zumba Gold exercise demonstration before lunch. Seniors can RSVP at 636-3059.

• The Amherst School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the district office conference room, 55 Kings Highway.

• The Amherst Traffic Safety Board will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. The Conservation Advisory Council will also meet there Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

• The Amherst Energy Conservation Citizens Advisory Committee will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.

• The Amherst location of EduKids daycare center has received a key accreditation, officials announced last week.

The center, located at 2715 Niagara Falls Blvd., received the distinction from the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

• Amherst nursing home official Ron Zito has been elected Board Chair of the New York State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators, officials said last week.

Zito is the administrator of record of the Rosa Coplon Living Center on the Weinberg Campus in Getzville.

• The Village of Williamsville will host its Evening in the Village from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday on Main Street. The event will include shopping and live outdoor music.

• The Montgomery Park retirement home will be host a veterans-related guest speaker at 2 p.m. Saturday, 6363 Transit Road.

Chris Kreiger, founder of WNYHeroes, Inc., will share his military experiences and explain what inspired him to create the organization that aids and assists veterans and their widows. RSVP by calling 688-7880.
