Two cats were rescued this morning from a Clarence house fire that caused an estimated $125,000 in damage, Amherst Fire Control reported.
Shortly before 11 a.m., a caller reported smoke coming from the back of a house at 5999 Corinne Lane. Firefighters found smoke and fire coming from a vent and melting the exterior siding.
Inside, the fire quickly was contained to an area of the kitchen where a microwave oven was located, authorities said.
Heat and smoke caused an estimated $75,000 damage to the structure and $50,000 to its contents, authorities said. The homeowner was identified as Barb Johnson.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office. The Clarence Center Fire Co. was assisted by the Clarence Fire Co. and Main-Transit Fire Department.
