West Valley man gets 10 years in child sex case

A 22-year-old West Valley man was ordered by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to serve a ten-year prison term and then five years of supervised release on his conviction for attempting to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity.

U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. said Michael Lee Reed, Jr. tried to entice a young victim to send him provocative pictures through text messages within the last year. The victim’s mother contacted law enforcement after looking through her child’s cell phone but no pictures were ever sent by the victim to the defendant, Hochul said.

Reed’s conviction was linked to the nationwide Project Safe Childhood which the U.S. Justice Department launched to combat a growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, Hochul said. Cheektowaga Police assisted the FBI in the investigation, he said.
