Town of Tonawanda
An outpouring of support for Tim Day means some big ticket items will be up for auction today during a benefit for the town police officer in need of a heart transplant.
Items in the basket and silent auctions include a Bills-Ravens tailgate package, a Buffalo Sabres jersey signed by the French Connection, a suite at a Buffalo Bisons game next season and a week at a vacation home on the beach in Maine.
“The generosity has been unbelievable,” said co-organizer Colleen Donovan. Other items up for auction include Rascal Flatts concert tickets, a Rochester Americans team-signed hockey jersey and even the services of a bagpiper.
The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 7 at Ellwood Fire Hall, 1000 Englewood Ave., with tickets available for $25 at the door.
Strictly Hip will provide live music and Ted’s Hot Dogs will grill between 2 and 5 p.m. Rich Products donated cupcakes, eclairs and brownies for dessert while UNYTS will be on hand to register organ donors.
“That was one of the big reasons for doing this,” said Donovan. “Tim really wanted to bring attention to organ donation.”
Day was a D.A.R.E. officer in the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School District and his children are students in the district. Money raised today will go toward assisting Day’s family with expenses during his treatment for an autoimmune disease.
