Not-guilty plea entered in Leandra’s Law case

A Michigan Avenue man has pleaded not guilty to a Leandra’s Law indictment in an April 16 crime on East Delavan Avenue.

Robert John, 57, who was arraigned Wednesday before State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski, faces two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of alcohol in a vehicle and driving on the shoulder of the road.

Johnson’s 8-year-old grandson was in the front seat of his car as he drove on the sidewalk in the 1100 block of East Delavan about 9:20 p.m., according to prosecutors.

After his arrest, he registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.22 percent, almost three times the state’s legal limit. He could face up to four years in prison.
