Janice D. Gill, of Getzville, an administrative assistant in the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda schools for many years, died Wednesday after a two-year illness. She was 67.

Born in the Town of Tonawanda, the former Janice Baran was a graduate of Kenmore East High School and earned a certificate in administration from Bryant & Stratton College.

She began as a substitute administrative assistant in the Ken-Ton Schools in 1982 and became a full-time administrative assistant at Thomas Edison Elementary School in 1986.

After a year as an administrative assistant for the Town of Tonawanda Police Department in 1992-93, she became assistant to the vice principal at Kenmore East and served in that position for 15 years, retiring in 2008.

Mrs. Gill was a lifelong member of St. Amelia’s Catholic Church, a weekly participant in the prayer group and served for a time as a Eucharistic minister.

She also was an avid gardener.

Survivors include a son, Jonathan; two daughters, Jennifer Hobson and Joanne Yost; her mother, Ruth Lesosky Baran; and two brothers, Edwin “Skip” Baran and David Baran.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Amelia’s Church, 2999 Eggert Road, Town of Tonawanda.
