SILVER CREEK – Mayor Nick Piccolo is playing an active role in trying to recruit buyers for the former Petri Baking Products building in the village.
During a meeting of the Village Board on Monday, Piccolo said he has been talking to representatives of Militello Realty in Buffalo, the firm handling the sale of the building. He said since the plant closed its doors in July there were three interested buyers who toured the facility.
Piccolo said that ConAgra, the firm that bought out the plant and then closed it down, has not been able to offer a selling price.
Piccolo said the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency is seeking to purchase some adjacent property near the Petri plant in hopes of making the lot size even more appealing to a potential buyer.
Piccolo also said an interested buyer has been asking about purchasing the former Silver Creek reservoir property near Hopper Road. Piccolo said the buyer is interested in cutting trees from the lot and developing it for residential housing. About 197 acres are involved.
In other matters, a condemned house at 45 Parkway has neighbors concerned. A nearby resident said she was promised that the house would be torn down this year. It was severely damaged by a fire more than one year ago and has not been torn down. Piccolo agreed to continue to contact Hanover Zoning Code Enforcement Officer Tom Gould to urge that the owner be ordered to tear it down. Neighbors are concerned about safety, that the property is not secured and basement windows are open.
In other matters:
• Water-line project improvements are continuing. The next plan phase will be on Karen Drive after the Chautauqua County Health Department approves engineering.
• The mayor was authorized to talk to Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace about the use of the former Silver Creek Police station as a substation for deputies. The mayor said state police officers have also expressed an interest in using the station.
• The Village Clerk’s Office will be open for limited office hours the week of Sept. 9. The office will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, while staff is away at a conference.
