Nick Kahanic of Falconer broke the 40-year-old record in the 16-pound open stone throw during the annual Scottish Highland Games on Saturday at the Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village.

Kahanic, a member of the Buffalo Heavies Kilted Throwers Club, broke the record in the Scottish Highland version of the shot put with a throw of 63 feet, 3¾ inches. The effort surpassed the old record of 63-2 held by Brian Oldfield, which he set in Baemar, Scotland.


Bob Weaver of North Tonawanda took home three national trophies at the Vintage Snowmobile Club of America’s Eighth Annual Show in Boonville. His 1971 AMF 800XX won National Best in Show and best in Class Race Sled. His 1971 Al Unser Thunderjet won the People’s Choice Award.
