Poem of the Week By Bill Connolly

In An Unknown City

By Bill Connolly

In the candid light of this morning and into afternoon continuing

I sit at a café table in the middle of a city you do not know

On this, the day I hope for your arrival in this city you do not know

But the great sea surging, the sea that neither do you know

Is the sea you are crossing in the hope you will find this city that

You do not know and me at a café you have never heard of

And I wonder why am I not at the docks awaiting you

Holding a book of remembrances and lyrics

All in the hope of sighting your ship at a distance

A distance also from the island I have forgotten

An island of quiet cities and silent women

and silken grasses where first we loved

Buffalo area native BILL CONNOLLY lives in Dayton, Ohio, and works in a civilian capacity at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
