The University at Buffalo has received a $1.1 million grant to educate nurses on dental health.

The three-year, $1,120,953 training grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration was awarded to the UB School of Nursing and enables advanced practice nursing students to collaborate with dental students.

Nurse practitioners will be expected to assess early signs of periodontal disease in adults or apply fluoride varnish to children who lack dental care, said Nancy Campbell-Heider, associate professor of nursing and project director.
