Dieboldt doyble clinches Underclassman Baseball Showcase title

Richard Dieboldt of Kenmore West had a two-run double with two outs in the seventh inning in the finals of the second annual WNY Underclassman Baseball Showcase.

Dieboldt was later named MVP as his team made up of players from the Niagara Frontier and Niagara-Orleans League beat the ECIC, 6-4, in the final played at the North Collins Athletic Complex.

The ECIC advanced to the final with a 4-2 win over Chautauqua/Cattaraugus, 4-2. The Niagara County squad beat the Monsignor Martin Association, 5-3, in its first game. The three-game, four-team event attracted 18 college scouts, including five from NCAA Division I schools.

Among the hitting highlights were a two-run homer by J.D. Andressen of St. Mary’s, a solo homer by Coyote Sokolski of Iroquois and a two-run, ground-rule double to the fence by Tage Johnson of Frewsburg.

Four softball teams will compete today starting at noon.
