Members of United Steelworkers of America Local 135 at the Goodyear Dunlop Tires North America plant in the Town of Tonawanda have voted on a tentative contract, but the results will not be released until next week.
The Tonawanda site is one of six Goodyear plants voting on the deal. Local 135, which represents about 950 hourly workers, has decided wait until workers at the last of those plants, in Gadsden, Ala, vote on Aug. 22 before releasing its own results, said Thomas O’Shei, president of Local 135.
The four-year deal between Goodyear and the union would expire in July 2017, and calls for all six plants covered by the deal to be protected from closure during the life of the agreement. Goodyear would also commit to investing at least $700 million in the protected plants.
The deal would allow Goodyear to offer 150 employee buyouts at the Gadsden, Ala., plant, plus 400 additional buyouts at the other facilities.
