Additional confirmed cases of West Nile virus in local mosquito populations have been reported this week – in the Southern Tier and Southern Ontario, according to respective environmental reporting agencies there.

Officials in the Niagara Region of Ontario reported Thursday that an adult man from West Lincoln tested positive in the region’s “first human case of West Nile virus for 2013.”

The announcement comes about three weeks after Erie County officials first detected a pair of mosquito pools infected with the virus in Amherst.

Earlier this week, Chautauqua County announced the finding of mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus and Eastern Equine encephalitis near Jamestown.
