NFTA should invest in current employees

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority is replacing worn-out buses, which is a very good thing. It is also investing in new computer software in all departments and creating a new position that will pay between $95,000 and $140,000 per year plus benefits to an individual who will coordinate all this new technology.

However, despite these improvements, NFTA has unfortunately failed to invest in the majority of its hardworking current employees. The NFTA has 13 different labor organizations representing the vast majority of its employees. Currently, 12 out of 13 of those labor organizations are working under expired contracts.

Given these realities it is clear that the NFTA lacks vision and is neglecting its greatest asset, the hardworking men and women of the authority who are responsible for putting public transportation services on the street every day. These employees deserve fair contracts and it’s time for the NFTA to deliver. Shame on the NFTA if it doesn’t.
