Lockport crack dealer given a chance on probation

LOCKPORT – State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. has his doubts that Anthony J. Bennett can succeed on probation, but Tuesday the judge gave Bennett six months on probation as a test.

“Prove me wrong,” Kloch told Bennett, 27, of Ashley Place, Lockport. “Let’s see if he’s grown up. Let’s see if he’s genuine.”

Bennett pleaded guilty to fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance for selling crack cocaine in Lockport July 23, 2012. He has a previous drug possession felony conviction from 2008.

In another crack case before Kloch Tuesday, Johnny L. Mulkey III, 24, of Ontario Avenue, Niagara Falls, pleaded not guilty to two counts each of third-degree sale and third- and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He is accused of selling crack to an undercover police officer Jan. 23 and 24 in the Falls.
