LOCKPORT – Lockport’s first chalk festival, dubbed “Sweet Chalk Fest” by promoter Ellen Martin, owner of Sweet Sixteen Cafe, is lined up for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on Canal Street.
Headlining the event will be Carolyn Schultz of Orlando, Fla., recently crowned “Maestro Madonnari,” or master street painter, by the Florida Chalk Art Association. Martin said Schultz is expected to reproduce the Mona Lisa in chalk on the Canal Street sidewalk. “It’s going to take her two days to do it,” Martin said.
Also, 10 local artists will have the opportunity to display their talents, and the student division will have a “best in show” award. There will also be a section for “Little Chalkers” to try their hand at this art form.
Applications still are being taken for artists, both students and adults, via email at firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
