Red Cross assisting 21 after three weekend fires

The local arm of the American Red Cross is assisting 21 people affected by three separate fires that occurred over the weekend, the relief organization said in a news release.

Eight people from six families were displaced by an early-morning fire on Jersey Street in Buffalo on Saturday, and the Red Cross assisted two more people in a fire on Niagara Street in Buffalo later that day.

On Sunday, the Red Cross’ Disaster Action Team helped 11 people from three families who were affected by a fire on Sierra Drive in Cheektowaga.

On average, the Red Cross spends over $1,000 per fire affecting a family of four, the organization said.
