Bulletin Board for August 13

Charlie Garfinkel, the racket sports writer for The News, was honored last week at a retirement party after serving for 25 years as the head tennis pro at the Eagle Ridge Tennis and Swim Club in Orchard Park.

Garfinkel’s junior tennis team won the Inter Club League championships an unprecedented 23 years in a row. His overall record was 23-2.

Garfinkel was inducted into his 13th Hall of Fame, this time the Eagle Ridge Hall of Fame, for his long career and his dedication to teaching children at the club. The tennis courts at the facility have been named for Garfinkel; a plaque to that effect has been placed on a fence on the edge of the courts.
