West Side men’s pair wins gold at Royal Canadian Henley Regatta

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — The crew of Andrew Carmody and William Downing of West Side Rowing Club brought home Henley Gold on Sunday afternoon.

The two won the Under 23 Lightweight Men’s Pair at the 131st Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.

The pair put up a winning time of 6:50.461, nearly three seconds ahead of second place Botafogo Futebol e Regatus of Rio de Janeiro.

Also in Sunday’s finals from West Side Rowing Club was the Under 23 Women Four of Kellie Solowski, Lily Keane, Emily Herzig and Corrine Kickel. They placed sixth in their final in 7:44.360 – about 30 seconds behind the winning crew from Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia.

Two Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association eights placed sixth in their finals. The Under 19 Men’s Eight boat was comprised of Jacob Filby (coxswain), Ryan Flynn, Joseph Ebner, Brian Hamp, David Mititello, Sean Overdorf, Connor Gilson, Max Paterson and Michael Battagia.

The Scholastic Rowing Association Senior Lightweights with Ben Zable (coxswain), Sam Hausmann, Dan Luongo, Michael Battaglia, Charlie Kwitchoff, Ryan Flynn, Joseph Ebner, Dylan Sabuda and Owen Ogiony also were sixth.
