La-Z-Boy on Sheridan Drive in Amherst closes

A La-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery store in Amherst closed without warning Tuesday, but customers who have already placed orders there shouldn’t panic, according to a spokeswoman at the company’s Michigan headquarters.

“We will honor the orders entered into our product system,” said Kathy Liebmann, a La-Z-Boy spokeswoman.

Customers should call 1-855-415-2926 with any questions about orders placed at the Sheridan Drive store.

La-Z-Boy was “unable to reach an agreement” with the independent dealer who owned the store, so its licensing agreement with the company ended.

The former licensee was unable to be reached to comment, and Liebmann declined to provide further details.

In 2006, licensee Michael DeNisco spent more than $1 million expanding and upgrading the store at 3521 Sheridan Drive. DeNisco had a second La-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery on Southwestern Boulevard in Orchard Park, which closed in 2011.

La-Z-Boy said it is looking for a new licensee to reopen another La-Z-Boy store in the market. La-Z-Boy is primarily sold alongside other furniture brands by the Raymour & Flanigan retail chain. After Tuesday’s closing, the closest La-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery stores are in Auburn and Clay, near Syracuse.
