Tickets are on sale for the Lockport Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at 6 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the Lockport Town and Country Club. Tickets are $30 and available in the main office of Lockport High School or at Sullivan’s Hair Design on East Avenue. This year’s inductees are: Harvey Mattes, William Judd, David Haley, Bob Brown, Tim Tolli, Calvin Shellman, Charlie Croff and Allison Depp.


The Lou Gehrig 11-U Iron Horsemen won the Western New York State Championship for Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken baseball by going 5-0 and outscoring their opponents, 58-6, in the tournament at Westwood Park in Lancaster. The team will travel to the Eastern Regionals which will begin on Friday in Basking Ridge, N.J. Team members are: Brian Addudle, Jacob Anderson, Matt Barrali, Andrew Fairbrother, Jack Gelder, Jack Gilbert, Sam Latorre, Dillon Lobdell, David O’Donoghue, Andrew Oris, Gunnar Wepner and Cam Zurat. Team coach is Tim Gelder, and assistant coaches are Brent Zurat, Scott Fairbrother and Bill Anderson.


West Seneca American Legion Post 735 baseball team won its third district title in four years and extended its record to 23-2 on the season. The team is headed to Donovan Stadium at Murnane Field in Utica on Wednesday for the 2013 State American Legion Tournament. Team members include: Ian Allen, Corey Fermo, Josh Fuller, Zac Hayes, Matt Keating, Ryan Keating, Trot Kelly, Joel Krywcun, Justin Krzemien, Joe Kwasniewski, Alex Pacer, Mike Prentice, Coyote Sokolski, Austin Spindler, Bill Sulkowski, Noah Thompson, Zach Trumpler and Paul Wujek. The coaching staff is led by Pete Trzybinski with assistants Tim Klimtzak, Ryan Struzik and Mike Yochum.


Veteran bowler Dave Guindon of West Seneca shot 249 in the final round and won the $20,000 top prize in the recent TAT (True Amateur Tournament) Summer Classic at the Orleans Bowling Center in Las Vegas, Nev. Guindon led his qualifying round with a 697 to advance to the finals. Alex Hoskins of Pocatello, Idaho, was second, earning $10,000. Guindon, the 1986 and 2002 George A. Obenauer Masters champion, once bowled a 300 games in an International Eliminator in Las Vegas.


BASKETBALL: Open teams are needed for men’s basketball on Monday and Thursday evenings. Call 839-9330.

BOWLING: Five person teams or individuals are needed for the Friday Night Majors League at Classic Lanes starting Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $18 per week. Call Don at 876-2439 or Tom at 871-0224.

FOOTBALL: Buffalo State will host a New York State NSCA Strength and Conditioning Clinic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Bulger Communication Center (West). The cost is $85 for NSCA members, $45 for NSCA student members and $95 for non-members. Shannon Quinn, wife of UB head football coach Jeff Quinn, will give participants a behind-the-scenes look at UB Football, learn the fundamentals, including officiating, food and fashion. GOLF: The Gerry Gentner Memorial Western New York Tournament will be held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Glen Oak Golf Course. Golf will be a scramble format and will include: closest to the pin, longest drive, 50/50 raffle, mulligans, and a putting challenge. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the beginning of the event. Proceeds will benefit the Western New York Cortland Alumni Scholarship Fund. TENNIS: Sign-ups for the annual Lockport Tournament will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Monday, Aug. 5., and from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lockport High courts off Lincoln Avenue. Tournament runs from Aug. 8-15 at Lockport High and Altro Park and is open to those who live or work in Niagara and Orleans Counties, Grand Island, and the Ken-Ton School District. Age groups are from 10 and under through 50 and over. Entrants are guaranteed two matches. Call 434-6463.
