Iris M. Rommel, West Seneca bookkeeper, switchboard operator

Iris Marie Rommel of West Seneca, longtime bookkeeper and switchboard operator, died May 27 in Midland, Texas. She was 89.

A native of Nova Scotia, Mrs. Rommel moved to the United States with her parents when she was 3 years old and graduated from South Park High School. She married Henry G. Rommel in 1942.

Mrs. Rommel worked for 18 years as a Town of West Seneca bookkeeper and as a switchboard operator, also serving as secretary to former West Seneca Supervisor James Roof.

She was active in the Democratic Party, and was an officer for the West Seneca Democratic Women’s League. Mrs. Rommel moved to Midland, Texas, nine years ago. Her husband died in 1996.

She is survived by a daughter Diane Sager, and a son, James.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. John Vianney Church, 2950 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park.
