National Grid crews were repairing a downed power line this afternoon that left about 2,500 customers in Amherst without power as temperatures reached the high 80s.

A power company spokesman said the repair of the line, near Niagara Falls Boulevard and the Youngmann Highway, was expected to be completed by 4:30 p.m. The company was investigating the cause of the break, which was not the result of a collision.

National Grid spokesman Patrick Stella also said the outage was not related to the hot weather.
