Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.: Earth’s Daughters Gray Hair Series presents a reading/performance featuring the Daughters of Creative Sound storytellers Karima Amin, Denise Chapman-Acosta and Sharon Jordan Holley. Hallwalls Cinema, 341 Delaware Ave. $5

Thursday, 5 p.m.: Talking Leaves Books presents a reading featuring Kathleen McCleary, author of the novels “A Simple Thing” (Harper Collins, 2012) and “House and Home” (Hyperion, 2008). McCleary, a former columnist for, lives in Virginia with her husband and two daughters and teaches creative writing at American University in Washington, D.C. Larkin Square, 745 Seneca St. . Free.

Saturday, 2 p.m.: Lecture/Discussion: “Alternative Press” with Artvoice editor Geoff Kelly and Ed Cardoni, executive director of Hallwalls and co-curator of the current Burchfield Penney Art Center retrospective on the work of underground comics artist Manuel “Spain” Rodriguez. Cardoni and Kelly will discuss the alternative press industry and the importance of the alternative press to the underground comics medium. Burchfield Penney Art Center Auditorium, 1300 Elmwood Ave.

Saturday, 4 p.m.: Steve McCaffery, director of the UB Poetics Program, and Michael Basinski, curator of the UB Poetry Collection, will perform works from “An Exquisite Corpus: Vectors of Visual Poetry,” a brief history of concrete poetry which they curated for the Burchfield Penney Art Center along with Karen Mac Cormack and Page Mein. Saturday 8 p.m.: “Salute to Spain Rodriguez,” a reading/performance by poet, historian, musician, author, social activist and publisher Ed Sanders. Burchfield Penney Art Center Auditorium, 1300 Elmwood Ave. $5, Burchfield Penney members. $10, general admission.
