OLAF FUB SEZ: According to British author George Orwell, born Eric Arthur Blair on this date in 1903, "Each generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one that comes after it."

Patience Is a Virtue

In olden days a mother

built a fire before she could cook.

Imagine her frustration about how long it took.

She needed to have patience

for all her daily toils

And knew from her experience

that a watched pot never boils.

Now I stare at a microwave

instead of a fire's glow

While grousing that this miracle

Is really much too slow!
