One killed, another hurt in Schiller Park shootings

Gun violence led to the death of one person and injuries to another about 9:40 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Eller Street, Buffalo police said.

Homicide detectives were summoned to the neighborhood, off Genesee Street in the Schiller Park neighborhood, and investigators remained at the scene late Saturday. Further information was unavailable.

Cheektowaga man suffers trauma in motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist was seriously injured Saturday morning when he lost control of his bike and crashed on the Kensington Expressway.

The incident happened on the eastbound Kensington at the Thruway about 9:30 a.m., said Capt. James Speyer of the Cheektowaga Police Department.

Robert Clerc, 27, of Cheektowaga, suffered a broken ankle and head trauma, Speyer said. He was listed in serious condition in Erie County Medical Center.

DWI, other charges await man arrested on Route 438

A Brant man driving more than 100 mph early Saturday on Route 438 on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation was drunk, Erie County sheriff's officials said.

Anthony R. LeRoy, 31, arrested shortly after 3 a.m., was arrested on Lane Drive after a short pursuit, deputies said.

LeRoy was charged with felony aggravated unlicensed operation, driving while intoxicated, speeding, reckless driving, failure to maintain the roadway and drinking alcohol while driving.

LeRoy and Rachel L. Jemison, 26, of Brant, also were charged with criminal possession of marijuana and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Deputies said they left their three children -- ages 1, 2 and 3 -- at home alone while they were out drinking.

Victim shot in the face offers police no clues

A man partying on Sobieski Street early Saturday was shot in the face after gunfire erupted, according to Buffalo Police reports.

The victim, Terrin Jackson, no age or address listed, was uncooperative and would not provide any information about the shooting, Ferry-Fillmore District Police said. Jackson was at a party when a fight broke out and someone fired a gun, police said.

House blaze in Angola being fought late Saturday

Several area fire companies were summoned late Saturday to a fire in a 2 1/2 -story house at 25 Center St., Angola.

A few firefighters were injured battling the blaze -- none seriously, authorities said. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Ill-advised cellphone chat leads to felony DWI charge

An Akron man faces felony driving while intoxicated and other charges after he was pulled over on Wehrle Drive for talking on his cellphone and driving, Erie County sheriff's officials said.

Paul J. Herod, 41, was stopped in Lancaster about 9:15 p.m. Deputies said Herod was twice convicted of DWI, in 2004 and 2006. He also faces charges including felony aggravated unlicensed operation.

Man jailed in larceny case arrested on new charges

A Chadduck Avenue man already jailed on larceny charges was charged this week with criminal mischief and harassment counts for allegedly intimidating and terrorizing a 17th Street woman last November, authorities said.

Reymundo Nieves-Rojas, 39, was accused of breaking into the home of a woman he knew in the first block of 17th about 10 a.m. Nov. 30 and demanding to use her car.

After she called for police help, he forced her into a bedroom and told her not to answer the door when police came, authorities said.

Felony DWI charge lodged against Clarence motorist

A Clarence man was charged with felony DWI and failure to keep right after he was stopped for erratic operation on Greiner Road near Strickler just after midnight Saturday, according to Erie County sheriff's reports.

The driver, Robert P. Pohrte, 30, was allegedly found to have a blood-alcohol level of .11 percent.

He was taken to the Clarence substation and released on appearance tickets.

Pohrte had a DWI conviction in 2003, sheriff's officials said.
