RETIREMENT RECEPTION: The Clarence Center Parent Teacher Organization will host a retirement reception for Clarence Center Elementary School Principal Neil T. Burns Jr. from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday. The open-house style dessert reception will be held in the school gymnasium, at 9600 Clarence Center Road, and will include a short presentation at 7:30 p.m. All parents are welcome.

STRAWBERRY SOCIAL: St. Nicodemus Lutheran Church, 12029 Liberia Road, East Aurora will host it's annual Strawberry Social at 4:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Music will be provided by the band Anastazja.

LECTURE SERIES: Louis Grachos, outgoing director of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, and Don Kimes, artistic director at Visual Arts at Chautauqua Institution, will lecture as part of the "Imagine Buffalo the Arts as a Second Language: Why Do the Arts Matter?" lecture-discussion series from 12:15 to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Central Library's Ring of Knowledge, main floor near Fables Cafe, 1 Lafayette Square. The free event is sponsored by the Center for the Study of Art, Architecture, History and Nature.

STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL: New Hope United Methodist Church, 2846 Seneca St., West Seneca, will hold its annual Strawberry Festival from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. The West Seneca Town Band will perform at 6 p.m. Hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages are available for purchase.

OUTREACH UNIT: The Planned Parenthood of WNY Mobile Outreach Unit will be available from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Cleveland Hill Family Resource Center, 3660 Harlem Road. The outreach unit provides confidential reproductive health care and education to community members. Most insurance plans including Medicaid are accepted, a discounted fee scale is available or free to those who qualify.

SPEAKER SERIES: Victoria Ross of Peace Education Project will speak at the Social Justice Series from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Central Library, 1 Lafayette Square. The discussion is titled "Nonviolent Direct Action."

SATELLITE HOURS: The office of Rep. Kathy Hochul, D-Amherst, will host satellite hours in Erie and Niagara counties from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, in Lancaster Municipal Building, Library/Conference Room, 5423 Broadway, and from 2 to 4:30 p.m. in Lockport Municipal Building, Snyder Room, 6560 Dysinger Road. Constituents will be able to discuss issues, including Social Security, veterans affairs, citizenship and immigration. For details, call 634-2324.

BOOK EXHIBITION: The Western New York Book Arts Collaborative Members' Exhibition will be held Friday to Aug. 25 in WNY Book Arts Center, 468 Washington St., with an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. The free exhibition will feature an array of book-related work, including collage, text, prints, paintings, traditional bookbinding and sculptural books.
