Margaret F. Hacic, local championship golfer; Aug. 19, 1924 -- June 9, 2012

Margaret F. Hacic, formerly of Hamburg, a local championship golfer for many years, died Saturday in a nursing home in Philadelphia after a long illness. She was 87.

A native of Canton, Ohio, the former Margaret F. Milkovic moved with her family to the Buffalo area as an infant and lived in Hamburg until 2009, when she moved to Stafford, Va., to live with her youngest daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Donald Snyder. After an injury left her unable to walk, Mrs. Hacic moved later that same year to live near her son Paul J. in Philadelphia.

At the urging of her husband, Charles W., she began her long career as a golfer in 1958. She and her husband were members of the Bethlehem Management Club, now Brierwood Country Club of Hamburg. Mrs. Hacic remained the women's club champion there for several years while also winning a tournament at Wanakah Country Club.

As an avid sportswoman, Mrs. Hacic was a fan of the Buffalo Bills and was a weekly bowler with a group of friends. In later years, she enjoyed all types of needlework, becoming proficient in intricate quilting.

Her husband died in 1979.

Survivors include three sons, Charles, Gregory and Paul; three daughters, Ann M. Hoffman, Jane P. Keller and Gail Snyder; her twin brother, Joseph F. Milkovic; and a sister, Catherine Corne.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. today in St. Bridget Catholic Church, Philadelphia.
