The West Side Rowing Club's men's youth four with coxswain finished 11th in the country at the 2012 USRowing Youth National Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn. last weekend.

The crew consising of J.P. Scaduto (stroke, Kenmore West), Julien Green (Hutch-Tech), Brett Lawhon (Amherst), Dalton Weir (Canisius) and coxswain Emily Brucks (Ken West) crossed the B-Final finish line at 7:00. This is the first heavyweight men's boat from the WSRC to compete at these championships. The USRowing Youth National Chamionships is widely regarded as the premier rowing event of the spring season nationwide.

BASEBALL: Baldwin-Wallace junior standout outfielder Brendan Toughey (St. Joe's) was named to the Capital One Academic All-America team. Toughey, from East Amherst, batted .377 with 10 doubles and 57 hits. He also set a school single-season record for runs (53) and was 23 for 23 in stolen bases.

BASKETBALL: The 10th Harbor Hoops 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held at Clark's Park in Wilson, starting at 9 a.m. Aug. 11. Clark's Park is adjacent to the Wilson Boathouse Restaurant located at Wilson Harbor. The tournament is open to boys and girls up to 18 years old. Also offered is a men and women's open division which will be held adjacent to the Wilson Pier. Entry fee is $120 per team (no applications accepted after Aug. 8), and all participants receive a T-shirt and backpack. The tournament is sponsored by the Wilson Community Enhancement Charity. BCANY boys Hoopsfest team tryouts will be held June 19 at St. Mary's High School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Any player returning to play high school basketball in the fall is eligible and there is no cost to try out. You must be available to play the weekend of August 3-5 in Johnson City, N.Y. Coaches are Larry Jones (Depew), assisted by Dan Gill (St. Mary's) and Mike Miranto (Daemen College).
