TIME OF NEED -- Paralyzed on her left side since she suffered a traumatic brain injury in an accident, Tracy Polvino, of Cheektowaga, and her husband are facing a mountain of expenses for medical treatment, equipment and adaptations to their home.

To help her out, friends and family are holding a benefit from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the South Buffalo Moose Lodge, 2019 South Park Ave. There will be beer, pop, snacks, door prizes, auctions and live music by Stealin'. PEDAL PUSHERS -- Preparing for the annual Ride for Roswell on June 23 is a group of cyclists who call themselves Danielle's Wild Birds. Last year they raised more than $10,000, and this year they're hoping to match or surpass that total by hosting a beer blast from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday in Molly Maguire's, 834 Abbott Road.

SUMMER FARE -- Bigger than ever is the Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Service's fifth annual Book & Media Super-Sale beginning at 8 a.m. today and Saturday in front of its headquarters at 1199 Harlem Road, between William and Clinton, Cheektowaga.

Featured will be thousands of books, books on tape and CD, records, videos, DVDs, CDs and cassettes. Proceeds will benefit the volunteer agency's program of daily readings of newspapers, books and magazines broadcast via special "reading radios" to local people who are blind or cannot read. SWING TIME -- Lancaster Elks Lodge, 33 Legion St., is hosting a big-band dance with Buffalo Swing from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10 advance, $15 at the door. Seating is limited. There will be a cash bar, and you're welcome to bring your own snacks. For reservations, call 685-1478.

FUN FOR ALL -- The annual St. Francis Family Fun Fest will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of St. Francis of Assisi Church, 73 Adam St., City of Tonawanda.

Featured foods include pulled pork, chowder and grilled shrimp. There will be a garden booth, theme trays, games for all ages and baked goods sale. Tickets for the Super Raffle, with prizes including $500 cash, will be drawn at 7. For good measure, there will be live music by the Clearwater Band.
