Steve Hyde, president and chief executive officer of the Genesee County Economic Development Center, received the developer of the year award from the New York State Economic Development Council at its annual meeting in Cooperstown recently.

Hyde also was named vice chairman of the council's board of directors. The council said that since 2003, more than 300 economic development projects have come to Genesee County, generating more than $610 million worth of capital investment and the creation of 3,149 jobs.

D&W Diesel named John Schmitt business development representative for truck hydraulics. Schmitt, who has more than 18 years of experience in sales and sales management, is a Cornell University graduate. D&W distributes and remanufactures engine components and tank-truck equipment. The company has eight locations, including Buffalo.

Kurt C. Bingeman, president of Russell Bond & Co., was one of four "Local Industry Legends" honored recently in Manhattan at the 2012 annual members meeting and dinner of the Excess Line Association of New York. Bingeman was recognized as a founding director and past chairman of the association and past president of the National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices. Russell Bond & Co. is an insurance wholesaler based in Buffalo.

Prudential's Empire State Agency, with offices in Amherst, New Hartford and DeWitt, received the President's Trophy, given to the top agency in the company's agency sales organization for its sales performance and service to the community in 2011. Thirty-one of the agency's members are Million Dollar Round Table qualifiers, including the management team.

Carbon Activated Corp., Orchard Park, was awarded a $729,880 federal contract for granulated activated carbon from the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antion.

Simco Supply, Amherst, was awarded a $53,038 federal contract for gas detector tubes from the Defense Logistics Agency's Defense Supply Center, Columbus, Ohio.

Tolman Engineering, Jamestown, was awarded a $48,448 federal contract for the replacement of windows, from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Butler Medical Center, Butler, Pa.

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center recently entered into an agreement with Buffalo Minimally Invasive Weight Loss Surgical Solutions to form Niagara Metabolic & Bariatric Services, to provide weight-loss services, including bariatric surgery, at the hospital's downtown campus.

Surgery, when appropriate, will be performed by Dr. Dang Tuan Pham and Dr. Bala Thatigotla. In addition, the medical practice includes nonsurgical weight management and extensive support services such as nutrition counseling, physical therapy, cardiac rehabilitation and behavioral health/psychological support.
