il,9l,4p3 The Rev. Patrick T. Sullivan, a former pastor of St. Michael Catholic Church on Washington Street and a former teacher at Canisius High School, died Saturday in the Jesuit Health Center on the Fordham University Campus in the Bronx. He was 78.
Father Sullivan was a Buffalo native who grew up in Kenmore and was a 1951 graduate of Canisius High School. That same year, he entered the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits, and was ordained in 1964. He also was a missionary to the Philippines from 1958 to 1961.
He assisted at the Jesuit Bureau in Buffalo, where he promoted vocations and financial assistance to the Jesuit missions. He later taught and was the religious superior at both Canisius High School and at McQuaid Jesuit in Rochester. From 1992 to 1996, he was the pastor at St. Michael Church. He then moved to the Jesuit Health Center in the Bronx.
Father Sullivan was a retreat director and spiritual adviser, as well as a pastoral priest. The poor were a special focus for him as a priest.
He is survived by three brothers, Kevin, Gerald and Daniel.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 5:15 p.m. Saturday in St. Michael Church, 651 Washington St.
