RABIES CLINIC: The Erie County Department of Health, the Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society and the SPCA Serving Erie County will conduct a free rabies clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Post 1041, American Legion, 533 Amherst St. Pets must be at least three months old. Proof of previous rabies vaccination must be provided in order to receive a three-year certificate; otherwise, a one-year certificate will be issued. All animals must be restrained using a leash and/or pet carrier. No one will be allowed to have more than three pets in line at a time.

MAINTENANCE WORKSHOP: The Frank E. Merriweather Jr. Library, 1324 Jefferson Ave., will host a free home maintenance workshop from 6 to 7 p.m. today. Willie A. WINE AND CHEESE SOCIAL: The BUILD Academy Alumni Association will host a wine and cheese social from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in the gallery of the Artspace Buffalo Lofts, 1219 Main St. There will be a special historical exhibit about the school along with light refreshments and a 5 0/5 0 raffle. FRIENDS OF THE BPO: The group Friends of the BPO is hosting a luncheon at noon Friday at Westwood Country Club, 772 N. PET WALK-A-THON: Pet Connections will hold its annual Tails on the Trails pet walk-a-thon to benefit homeless shelter animals from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday starting at the Casino in Como Lake Park, Lancaster. KIDS RUN: The annual Independent Health Foundation's 2012 Kids Run will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Zoofari Courtyard in Delaware Park. The free annual event includes a mini-dash for kids ages 2 to 5 and a 1.8-mile run/walk for all ages. Trophies are awarded to the winning boys and girls, and each participant receives a medal at the finish line, while supplies last. ZOO ELEPHANTS: The Buffalo Zoo is celebrating its Asian elephants, Jothi and Surapa, as well as elephants around the world from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature a keeper talk, raffles and the opportunity to feed one of the elephants for $1.
