Veronica M. Hughes, a longtime real estate agent in Buffalo and the surrounding suburbs, died Tuesday after a long illness. She was 84.
The former Veronica Whittaker was born in Lackawanna and was a longtime resident of Williamsville. She was one of the top producing agents in the area for MJ Peterson Real Estate, receiving several "Millionaire Sales Achievement" awards over the course of her career. She also played a significant role in the development of the "New Builds" project in downtown Buffalo.
Mrs. Hughes also designed new homes in Lancaster. The signature homes were called "The Veronica." Before working at MJ Peterson, she worked in sales in the Sears furniture department in the Eastern Hills Mall in Clarence.
Mrs. Hughes, wife of the late Sherman John Hughes Sr., is survived by three daughters, Marilynn, Patricia and Sharon; a son, Sherman Jr.; and two sisters, Sylvia and Betty.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic Church, 157 Cleveland Drive in Cheektowaga.
